Adventures in the Woodland

January 2026

Find out what our Bunnies get up to in our own private woodland at our unique nursery and preschool in Ashtead, Surrey.

When it’s my group’s turn for Wood Week, we spend the whole day in the woods. We go every day — when it’s sunny, when it’s cloudy, and even when it’s rainy!

We always wear our wellies because they are safe and easy to put on and off by ourselves. Sometimes it’s muddy, but that’s okay because we can splash in the mud and puddles and our feet stay dry. I have spare trousers in my very own Bunny Bag in case I fall over in the mud, but I’m really good at running, so I don’t!

In the wood, we can run and skip and hop on the paths, but we can only walk when we are off the paths because there are roots and rabbit holes, and maybe fairies. We have a fairy garden, and if we find treasure while we are exploring, we can leave it there for the fairies to decorate their tiny houses.

I love exploring the back of the woods the most because there are bushes and trees to investigate and hide in. There’s a bug area too, with logs and other places where insects and worms can hide. Our chickens come and play with us there, especially when they want to dig for spiders!

We have stepping stones and an activity trail, a Look Out Tower, and a snug little cabin. We have snack and Story Time in the cabin when it’s cold but when it’s sunny, we have a picnic snack and do stories and singing outside under the trees. Our trees are VERY tall! 🌳

In the woods, we can write maps and read bird books. We can paint with leaves and sticks. Sticks can be anything you want, like a horse, or a wand, or something to stir potions in the Potion Station.

I really love writing my name in the mud and also painting the tree trunks with muddy paint and big brushes. It gets very messy, but that’s okay because we have special sinks where we can wash our hands. We even have toilets in a wooden caravan, and they don’t use water (compost toilet)!

When we have a campfire it feels very special, but we do it lots at my Bunny School! It’s really exciting to explore and investigate in the wood and we learn lots about nature all around us. I go on great adventures and always look out for the kind troll, and for the dragon and the fairies too. Oh, and Father Christmas comes to a grotto in the cabin. My mummy cried when she came to see! 🎄😊
