WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING EACH DAY?
Wellies, a waterproof coat and their Bunny Bag with spare clothes in. Please bring indoor slippers on the first day of term, and we will keep them at The Burrow for your child.
ARE YOU OPEN ALL YEAR OR DO YOU CLOSE FOR SCHOOL HOLIDAYS?
Currently, we are a term-time only nursery and preschool. Our woodland Holiday Club currently runs during the school holidays for school-aged children.
From September 2026, we will be offering wrap around care, and extending our woodland Holiday Club to nursery and preschool children.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY AT THE BURROW LOOK LIKE?
Filled with fun and adventure! Check out our posts ‘A Day in the Life’ and ‘Adventures in the Woods’ to find out more.
ARE ALL YOUR STAFF QUALIFIED?
All our staff are fully qualified and very experienced. We currently employ two qualified primary school teachers, three Level 3 Early Years qualified practitioners and two qualified supply teachers.
WHAT RATIO DO YOU HAVE?
The Burrow has a ratio of 1:5, even though, with a qualified teacher in session, it is only required to provide 1:13 for our 3- and 4-year-olds. This allows us to give each child far more individual attention, support and supervision, which leads to better safety, stronger relationships and more meaningful learning and care for every child.
WHY DO THE CHILDREN HAVE TO WEAR WELLIES?
As well as being weatherproof, wellies are the safest option when running around the garden and exploring a ‘real’ wood. They are also the easiest option for getting on and off independently and are easy to clean when they get too muddy!
DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE TOILET TRAINED? HOW DO YOU DO THIS?
Your child can still start with us if they are in nappies, although we do love it when they can use the toilet! We are happy to advise Burrow parents on when and how to toilet train your child, and work with you to make this change as easy and quick as possible. We just need LOTS of spare trousers and pants!
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS/SNOWS? WHAT CLOTHES DO THEY NEED?
The weather very rarely stops us from going outside — it’s all about the clothes we wear. Layers are important because we do spend time inside as well, and a waterproof coat is essential. Extra socks, tights under joggers, vests, etc, all help, but we will give you all the tips for keeping warm and dry when you’re here!
DO YOU PROVIDE LUNCH?
If your child stays for lunch you will need to provide a packed lunch, which must be in line with our healthy eating policy. We provide a snack, for example, breadsticks, fruit, and milk or water during main sessions.
DO YOU OFFER SEND PROVISION?
We have qualified and experienced staff members responsible for observing and responding to any additional needs a child may have, or develop, supporting them and enabling them to access our provision and curriculum appropriately. We work closely with other professionals when necessary, and in partnership with parents at all times.
WE'RE GOING ON HOLIDAY/MY CHILD IS ILL. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Any absence, for whatever reason, should be reported to the office by email or telephone by 10am on the day of absence. If we do not hear from you, we have a policy for reporting absences which will take immediate effect. It’s ok to miss a day or two, but please do let us know!
HOW WILL MY CHILD'S PROGRESS BE SHARED?
Communication between The Burrow and parents/carers is really important to us. Each child has a ‘Busy Bunny Book’ which provides weekly updates on a specific aspect of their learning, as well as an end-of-term summary, and our ‘Sunday News’ email covers general updates and an overview of group activities. Key skills assessments and reports are completed at the start of Little Bunnies and again at the beginning of Big Bunnies, with a final report shared on transition to school. We hold bi-termly parent meetings (termly if requested/deemed necessary) and have an open-door policy for parents, either casually at the gate for simple matters or private meetings if required.
