Little Bunnies Visit St Giles

The Little Bunnies had a great adventure to visit St. Giles School! It’s was a long walk, and it was quite
warm, but the Little Bunnies were totally amazing!!! We set off bang on time, everybody who could come did come, and we were all very excited, but stayed so sensible! This is when you really see that all the hard work training routines and listening to instructions, really does pay off hugely, well done Team Burrow!
We walked very quietly down the lane, hoping to see the deer (no luck!) and went to the right of the park via the duck pond. There we fed mallards, a mandarin duck (the male version Wilbur who is one of our ducks!) We chatted and thought about how to keep safe around water and ponds, and discussed bread versus duck food.
We did a bit more walking and it led us on to the road to St. Giles, so we had another talk about roads and cars, crossing roads, and keeping safe as a pedestrian, until the school was in sight!
We were greeted beautifully by St Giles’ staff, which made us feel so very welcome, and convinced me they too were genuinely excited we were there! 😊 We had a quick apple snack (we didn’t want to risk the greedy geese round the pond!) and then the Yr 2 children came out to play! I have to say, they were totally brilliant, so enthusiastic, so well planned, and so much fun!!! They organised us into small groups and led us to the different games that they had invented and prepared for us to play, some of which confused me hugely, but the Bunnies didn’t seem to mind! After some interesting rule-explaining, and demonstrations, everyone joined in with all their might, including the Team, to happy cheering, clapping, and high-fives from all the Yr 2s! There were balls, hoops, cones, beanbags, footballs, batons, and lots of wide-open field for us to enjoy, with the school children showing us how it was done. 😊
The whole thing was utterly delightful, finished off with a story from Mrs Bartlett (always lovely when someone else reads story!) with breadsticks and a drink, then all the Yr 2s had to go, so we had some free-play time on the field. I cannot believe how resilient the LBs were, running their little trainers off until their grown-ups came, smiling and laughing to the very last minute, not one single tear or tantrum, not even a little grumble!!! A few complained when they had to go home, but we teachers were exhausted, so no complaints from us!
A big thank you to the BBs who accompanied us, for being excellent role models for the LBs, and for reminding the St Giles teachers how fab The Burrow children are when they are (nearly) ready for school! I was one very proud nursery teacher, as always!
Of course, a massive thank you to St Giles, for accommodating us, and making the afternoon such a happy one, and we can’t wait to do it again soon!
